St. Nicholas School Ballina

St Nicholas' School

Welcome to our new website! We hope you enjoy browsing through these pages to get a sense of our wonderful school and keep up-to-date with school activities.

Our new school building opened in 2009. We have a modern fully equipped school which includes a Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy, Home Economics, Woodwork and sensory rooms.

Inside the building is welcoming and bright. The classrooms are large and spacious and are well equipped. We have a modern fully equipped kitchen and employ a cook. Our pupils enjoy dinner at school each day. The majority of our pupils travel to school by bus, supported by our bus escort staff. We are most fortunate to have an outdoor canopy area which provides our pupils with access to the outdoors, despite the rain! We have plans to upgrade our sensory garden and add additional equipment to our playground.

Our School Features and Facilities

Cubbie

The Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) suits B variety of sports including football, basketball, soccer and athletics. Beside the MUGA, an additional play space has been created with an astro surface.

Outdoor Space and PE Hall

Being part of the Digital Schools’ Programme allows our pupils to learn using the latest modern technology. Each classroom has an interactive white board, iPads, laptops and desktop computers which all pupils use.

Home Economics Room

All of our pupils learn a traditional musical instrument, starting with the tin whistle in junior infants. We facilitate this with weekly music lessons with an external teacher and a practice session each morning

Woodwork Room

Drama is an integral part of all Aistear activities in the Junior Room. In the Senior Room it is used to promote Gaeilge as a living language and to make learning the language an enjoyable, positive experience.

School Bus

We know children love Art and Craft and we integrate it with all subjects. We have a timetabled day for Art where Painting, Drawing, Printing, Clay, Construction and Fabric and Fibre are taught.

School Curriculum

Each classroom has an extensive choice of books for pupils to borrow. Storytime happens in the Junior Room immediately after Lunch Break. Novels are studied and read in the Senior
